Police intercept P1 driver speeding 70km/h above limit in Sassafras
Police are urging motorists to obey the speed limit after a P1 Driver was detected speeding 70km/h over the limit at Sassafras yesterday.
Around 2pm, police detected a 1997 model Green Toyota Camry travelling at 170km/h on the Bass Highway at Sassafras.
The vehicle was intercepted and the driver was identified as an 18-year-old man from Tarleton who holds a Novice P1 Licence.
As a P1 Driver he was restricted to 100km/h in the 110km/h speed zone.
The man was travelling with a female passenger in the vehicle.
The vehicle was clamped and the driver will be summonsed to appear in court. He faces a significant period of disqualification, in addition to fines and penalties of up to $1,500.
Speeding is one of the fatal five contributing factors to serious and fatal road crashes. Police work hard with the community to educate drivers of the risks created by excessive speed and encourage all motorists, especially those that are less experienced, to take road safety seriously to prevent crashes.
