Police in St Helens cracking down on drink and drug drivers
Police in St Helens have apprehended several drink and drug drivers in the area recently, with one woman caught seven times the legal alcohol limit.
Inspector Luke Manhood said drink and drug driving is one of the major causes of fatal and serious crashes, and there is no excuse.
“Last Wednesday, a 37-year-old man was caught at Akoroa, returning a blood alcohol reading of 0.09 per cent,” he said.
“Last Thursday a 30-year-old man was caught more than two and a half times the legal limit at Stieglitz, returning a reading of 0.127 per cent.”
“On Tuesday, a 55-year-old man returned a reading of 0.07 per cent at Scamander, and on Wednesday a 44-year-old woman was caught seven times the legal limit.”
“The woman was apprehended at Binalong Bay, and returned a reading of 0.349 per cent, which is extreme.”
“She was charged with high range drink driving as well as driving disqualified and other traffic offences.”
“These drink drivers follow two drug drivers who were caught at St Marys and Beaumaris the week before last.”
“There is quite simply no excuse for this behaviour.”
“Police in St Helens, and across the state, will continue to crack down on drink and drug driving to keep our roads as safe as possible.”
“We could be operating anywhere, at any time.”
“If you think you won’t get caught – you should think again.”
