Police Dive Crew members hone skills at Hobart Waterfront
Police Dive Squad members will participate in a practical exercise at the Hobart waterfront today as part of their training schedule for 2018.
“Officers within the Search and Rescue Dive Squad undergo regular training in a range of marine environments to maintain a skill competency as per Australian Standards,” said Senior Constable Chris Williams.
“Today’s training will see eight members of the 17 member Dive Squad practice current skills both below the surface and above at the Hobart waterfront.
“This training is focused on practicing emergency scenarios involving trapped or unconscious divers and introducing members to new equipment not previously used by Tasmania Police Divers.
“Police Divers operate in a hazardous environment often in zero visibility. Exercises like today’s provide an opportunity for us to conduct training in a controlled environment which allows the divers and supervisors to identify potential issues and hazards that may occur on a live job,” said Senior Constable Williams.
