Police confiscate vehicle from speeding learner driver
A 30-year-old Westbury man has had his vehicle confiscated by police after being caught travelling more than 50km/hr over the speed limit as an unaccompanied learner driver.
Deloraine police detected the man travelling at 142km/hr on the Bass Highway on Monday afternoon, which is 52km/hr above the 90km/hr speed limit permitted for learner drivers.
Senior Constable Luke Venn said police had seized the man’s vehicle indefinitely.
“The actions of this driver have put the lives of other road users at risk,” he said.
“Speeding is a major contributing factor in serious and fatal crashes in Tasmania.”
“This incident is especially disappointing given the recent tragedy we saw on the Bass Highway.”
The man will appear in court at a later date.
