Police Car Rammed
At approximately 10pm on Friday, 17 August 2012, Launceston uniform police were tasked to attend an address (units) at New Street, Invermay. The incident related to a male person with a knife threatening people. As police drove into New Street, a small blue station wagon turned out of the units and drove directly at the police vehicle. The police officers took evasive action but the police vehicle received minor damage to the rear bumper. The other vehicle left the scene.
Just after this incident, police were approached by a male person brandishing a knife. This person was arrested after being subdued with OC spray. He was taken to the Launceston Police Station and charged and detained for Court.
It has been established that the blue station wagon had been stolen from and address at New Street. The vehicle was located several hours later by police abandoned in Newstead. Enquiries are continuing.
