Police are continuing to investigate a fatal crash in Lindisfarne last night, where a 26-year-old man died at the scene.

Southern District Commander Jason Elmer said investigators want to hear from anyone who witnessed the man’s driving behaviour in the lead up to the crash.

“We are calling for anyone who saw a silver Holden Barina travelling between Ross and Hobart, possibly on the Midland Highway, between 8:30pm and 9:30 pm last night to contact us,” he said.

“We’re particularly looking for dash cam or other footage of the vehicle, which people can upload to our evidence portal.”

“The crash occurred on the East Derwent Highway between the silver Holden Barina and a white Toyota van about 9:40pm.”

“Patrolling police reportedly observed the vehicle travelling at high speed along the highway just before the crash but did not initiate a pursuit.”

“The police unit continued in the same direction as the speeding vehicle and came across the crash scene a short time later, providing initial first aid alongside other witnesses until paramedics arrived.”

“As is normal practice for a crash in close proximity to police, Professional Standards attended the scene and is reviewing the matter and a report will be prepared for the Coroner.”
