Police apprehend motorcyclist travelling at high speed

Today (Friday 1/4/2016) at around 10:30am, Police observed a blue and white Suzuki motorcycle travelling at high speed on Middle Tea Tree Road, Richmond  and  Richmond Road towards Cambridge.

This motorcycle was overtaking other motorists at high speed, putting their safety at risk.  Sgt Dine from Southern Roads and Public Order Services says, “This exhibition of speed was both foolhardy and dangerous, placing lives at risk on our roads.”

The motorcycle was not displaying a registration number.  It was not pursued by Police and the rider was safely apprehended when he stopped in a private driveway.  The rider, who tested positive for the presence of illicit drugs, has been arrested under Tasmania’s anti-hooning legislation and bailed to appear in court at a later date.  The motorcycle has been impounded.

Police would like to hear from any person who may have seen this motorcycle on either Middle Tea Tree Road or Richmond Road today (Friday 01/04/2016).  Please call Tasmania Police on 131444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 if you saw this motorcycle.
