Please obey all road closures

FIRE RELATED ROAD CLOSURE ISSUES – CIRCULAR HEAD

A Level 2 road closure (Essential Services only) still exists on:

  • Sumac Road from Lake Chisholm Road turn-off south;
  • Rapid River Road from the intersection with Sumac Road to the intersection with Tayatea Road; and
  • Tayatea Road from the intersection with Rapid River Road to 500 metres south of the Tayatea Bridge on Arthur River.

Fire suppression activity is still being undertaken on those roads by TFS relating to the Pipeline Road fire.  State Growth are also working to replace road related infrastructure including signage and guideposts which has been damaged by the recent fire activity in the area.

“Tasmania Police implores members of the public to heed and obey the Road Closure signage”, said Inspector Shadbolt.

“Unfortunately, some members of the public are choosing to disobey the road closed signs on those roads, placing themselves at risk, but also hampering TFS fire suppression activities and placing crews working from the roadway in danger.

 Similarly, State Growth are undertaking their activities on the roadway replacing required infrastructure and removing unsafe trees in danger of falling onto the road surface from the roadside verge.

 “The roads cannot and will not be opened until assessed as safe by TFS and the road infrastructure required for road safety is replaced.

 “It is imperative to the safety of all road users that the signage is left in place and the closure signs are heeded,” he said.
