Aggravated Armed Robbery charges
About 9pm on Wednesday, 11 February 2015, two men unlawfully entered a residence in Bellette Place, Chigwell. One of the men was armed with a long arm firearm. The mens approached the occupants of the residence and demanded cash and property. The firearm was brandished at both the occupants. The female occupant was forced to lie on the floor. The occupants of the home complied with the demands of the two offenders.
The occupants were obviously distraught over the incident, but physically unharmed.
A short time later, the offenders left the residence on foot with a quantity of cash and some prescription medication.
Uniform police, Southern District Criminal Investigation Branch detectives and Forensic Services police were alerted and attended a short time afterwards. Investigations were conducted, witnesses interviewed and the scene forensically examined.
Police conducted a number of investigations and searches throughout the night and again during Thursday, 12th February. As a result of these investigations and information received, two men aged in their early to mid 20’s from the Glenorchy and Claremont areas were arrested by Glenorchy Criminal Investigation Branch detectives on Thursday afternoon.
Both men have been interviewed and charged with a number of offences including aggravated armed robbery, aggravated burglary and offences relating to the possession of the firearm.
Police recovered the firearm believed to have been used during the offences and also a quantity of stolen cash. The recovered firearm had been stolen during an aggravated burglary in the Glenorchy area in mid 2014.
Tasmania Police treat all incidents involving the unlawful use of firearm particularly seriously.
The two men will appear in the Hobart Magistrates court on Friday morning, 13 February 2015.
