Police can confirm that a person has died following a fire at a unit in Gilbert St, Latrobe.

The fire was reported at 9.40pm last night and TFS units from Latrobe and Devonport arrived to find the unit completely engulfed by flames.

The fire was extinguished and the deceased person was located inside the unit.

TFS fire investigators are currently working to determine the cause of the fire.

Police investigators and forensic officers remain on scene this morning.
