A house located in Pearl Street Wivenhoe, has been partially destroyed by fire overnight on the 3rd of October 2014. Damage of the fire is estimated at $50,000.

Approximately 11pm, Burnie uniform officers and three Tasmania Fire Service appliances attended the weatherboard house to find it engulfed in flames. It took fire crews approximately 30 minutes to extinguish the fire and confirm the house was vacant and unoccupied. Smoke from the fire travelled across the Bass Highway, but did not have any effect on traffic flow.

The rear of the structure was destroyed by fire with the remainder of the premises receiving smoke and water damage. The cause of the fire is unknown at this stage. A scene watch remained overnight and both police and fire investigators will attend this morning to assess the damage.
