PCYC youth to ‘learn to surf’ with Coastrider Surf Academy
Thirty kids will have the opportunity to ‘learn to surf’ today with Coastrider Surf Academy, supported by Tasmania Police’s PCYC officers.
“Following a successful community grant, Coastrider Surf Academy are pleased to be able to provide 30 youth with the experience and joy of surfing today,” said Jonathon Mereszka.
“The youths, aged between five and 12, will spend the day at Clifton Beach, learning surf safety and how to surf.
“At Coastrider we’re passionate about providing a positive and exciting experience to youth and we truly believe we can have a positive impact on their lives by creating change through a safe and exciting environment.
“We’re positive today’s learn to surf will be enjoyed by participants, and it may even spark a love for surfing among some of them and they’ll continue to enjoy the water.
“This wouldn’t be possible without our supporters today, and I thank Macquarie Sports Foundation, and Tasmania Police’s PCYC officers for their assistance,” said Jonathon.
The youth will be transported to Clifton Beach today from PCYC’s at Huonville, Hobart, and Bridgewater by Tasmania Police’s PCYC officers.
“Tasmania Police’s PCYC officers are pleased to assist Coastrider Surf Academy today, in providing a positive experience for youth who might not otherwise have the opportunity to ‘learn to surf’, said Senior Constable Steve Rose.
“Activities like today’s are a fantastic opportunity for people, organisations, and clubs to come together and have a positive impact on a youth that may need a helping hand, and we’re happy to be able to assist,” said Constable Rose.
Today’s learn to surf event is part of the Surfing Australia Surf For Life Project. In just over four years, the Surf For Life Project has helped over 8,500 children aged 5-12 years’ experience and grow from the joy of surfing. For further info see www.surfforlife.com.au & www.coastrider.com.au
