PCYC Building Launceston

The PCYC club in Launceston was closed on Friday after PCYC Management were alerted to the presence of dust on internal rafters.  It is known that the building had an asbestos roof removed in 1976 and there were concerns that the dust could potentially pose an asbestos hazard.

Air quality test results that were conducted on Friday came back indicating that the air quality within the building is within safe levels.

PCYC Management and the building owners, DPEM, instigated further and immediate investigation as to the safe removal of any dust residue as a workplace health and safety precaution. The PCYC club remains closed at this time while this practice can occur.

The building was subjected to an asbestos audit in 2006 noting that the building, like many others of its era, contained some asbestos building materials, which in controlled circumstances, does not pose any adverse risk and adequate control measures were put into effect at that time.

The PCYC alerted club members via email and Facebook post notification on Friday.

The club will remain closed for an indefinite period of time, until a clearance certificate is obtained by an accredited contractor.
