All unsolved cases remain open, even if they are no longer the subject of active investigation.

If new information is received in relation to an unsolved case it is allocated for follow up. 

“Contrary to what has been suggested this particular case was not investigated by the Cold Case Unit, however if new information was provided to police it would be treated as a priority,” said the Deputy Commissioner, Scott Tilyard.

“I would like to reassure the community that Tasmania Police has a strong record in investigating and resolving serious crime,” said Mr Tilyard. 

The decision to close the Cold Case Unit and redeploy the 5 positions was announced in June last year.  Individual cases are now with the CIB units in the districts.
