P-plater charged after Bass Highway crash
A 21 year old Devonport P-plater has been charged with drink driving following a crash on the Bass Highway overnight.
Police and emergency services were called to the highway at Devonport about 9.50pm Wednesday after reports of a two-vehicle crash.
Early investigations suggest the driver of an Isuzu Dmax ute was overtaking a Suzuki Jimny at speed when the vehicles collided.
The ute driver appears to have lost control and impacted the shoulder of the highway.
The Suzuki has then crashed into the rear of the ute.
The driver and passenger of the ute left the scene before police arrived.
A woman and child passenger from the Suzuki were taken to the Mersey Community Hospital for observation and treated for minor injuries.
Police subsequently attended a Devonport address and the driver of the ute was taken to the Devonport Police Station where he returned a breath analysis reading of 0.139. As a provisional licence holder, a zero blood alcohol limit applies.
He was immediately disqualified from driving for 12 months, and charged with drink driving, and being a driver involved in a crash and failing to stop.
He was bailed to appear in the Devonport Magistrates Court in February.
