P Plate Driver
At about 8.20 pm, on Sunday 19 August 2012, police from Northern Traffic Services detected a Black Mazda hatch travelling at high speed on the Midland Highway near the Kings Meadows Connector in Launceston.
The vehicle was checked travelling at 161 km/h in a 110 km/h zone.
Police were shocked when they discovered that the driver of the vehicle was a 17 year old female from Newnham. She was the holder of a first year (P1) provisional driver’s licence and was displaying ‘P’ plates on her vehicle. She had been caught travelling at more than double the 80 km/h speed limit for first year drivers.
The Mazda was subsequently clamped for a period of 28 days under Tasmania’s hooning laws.
The driver will be charged by summons.
