Overnight incidents – stolen cars and burglaries
Tasmania Police is seeking assistance relating to a series of offences committed between Hobart and Devonport overnight. Two Mercedes GLC250 SUVs were stolen from a Hobart address and involved in several incidents in the early hours of Saturday 20th August.
The vehicles were used to gain entry to businesses at Deloraine, Sassafras and East Devonport. Both vehicles have now been recovered by police.
Businesses involved are;
- Deloraine Newsagency, Emu Bay Rd, Deloraine where entry was gained by driving the vehicle through the front of the building and taking a small quantity of jewellery and cash.
- East Devonport Newsagency, Wright Street East Devonport where entry was gained by reversing the vehicle through the front win, a large quantity of cigarettes was stolen.
- United Service Station, Bass Highway Sassafras where entry was gained by kicking in the front door and a quantity of cigarettes was stolen.
The value of the property stolen, and damage caused is believed to be in excess of $300,000. Investigations are continuing.
