Overnight boating incidents
Jetski fatality Dunalley
A 32 year old man from Dodges Ferry has died after a Jetski incident at Marion Bay overnight.
Police were notified about 1am Sunday 22 October 2017 that the man had failed to return from a ride on the jetski.
Friends of the deceased had started a search for him, and had found the jetski washed up on rocks near their campsite at Marion Bay.
The Westpac Rescue Helicopter and marine police joined the search.
At 1.30am, the man was located in the water by friends, but he could not be revived.
Investigations indicate the man had left the campsite to transport two friends to Marion Bay, and may have hit a navigation beacon on the journey back to the campsite.
Bruny Island Rescue
Just after 7.30pm police were called in relation to the safety of a man in his 40s who had left a property on South Bruny Island in a ‘tinny’.
A neighbour reported seeing the man leave the shore and start rowing out into rough waters when the outboard failed to start. The neighbour lost sight of the tinny and reported his concerns to police.
Police sent a vessel and the Westpac Rescue Helicopter to the location. Just after 10pm, the man in the tinny was located in hazardous seas. He was picked up by the PV Dauntless and the tinny was towed to shore.
