Outlet Speeders
Officers with the Southern District Traffic Service have detected three high level speeding offences on the Southern Outlet at Kingston within a 24 hour period to midnight last night. Each of the incidents involved vehicles detected speeding in excess of 126 km per hour.
Of major concern to police was the fact that two of these vehicles were being driven by provisional licence holders.
The first provisional driver was detected travelling at a speed of 126 km per hour in the 100 zone. The P2 driver received an infringement notice.
Only 40 minutes later the second vehicle was detected travelling at 130km per hour. The provisional licence driver had held his licence for only 6 days and was travelling with 4 teenage passengers in the vehicle. This vehicle was travelling at 50 km per hour in excess of the limit for first year provisional licence holders. The vehicle was returned to the address of the registered owner where it was then clamped by police for a period of 28 days.
“Police would like to highlight the dangers of travelling at such excessive speeds and in particular the added risks to other motorists when such high speeds are combined with inexperienced drivers,” said Sergeant Penny Reardon.
