Operation Crossroads – update regarding vehicle detected with 5 unrestrained children:
In relation to the vehicle detected last night with the five unrestrained children, the vehicle involved was stopped at a static random breath/drug testing site in Thorn Street, Burnie.
The vehicle was driven by a woman. There was also an adult male front seat passenger.
Two of the children in the vehicle were those of the woman driver.
At this stage, the driver may face a maximum penalty of 3 demerit points loss per unrestrained child and a $350.00 fine per unrestrained child. That is a total of 15 demerit points and a fine of $1,750.00.
This offence is one of the fatal five targeted by police. As the driver of a motor vehicle you have a significant responsibility to the lives of all your passengers, particularly those who are vulnerable such as children.
