Fatal Crashes 0% 3
Fatalities 0% 3

Operation Crossroads concluded at midnight last night.  It was tragic to see there was the same number of fatalities this year as compared to last, despite the efforts by police and the public to prevent them.

It was also of concern to see the number of infringement notices issued and speeding offences detected, up this year,   but it may also be an indicator of the efforts put in by Tasmania Police to prevent crashes during the holiday season.  Speeding was up by 30% on last year and it is one of the major causes of crashes.  Similarly an increase of 10% for drink drivers was disappointing given that the number of random breath tests was down by 6%.

Overall however Tasmania Police were happy with the driving of motorists and compliance with the road rules.  What has been very good to see that apart from the fatality at Powranna Road, there have been no serious crashes for 2014 and only eight crashes requiring a short hospital visit.
