Although the same number of random breath tests have been conducted as the same time last year, there have been a further five drink drivers caught on our roads so far. Similarly the number of speeding vehicles detected is higher than last year.
Although not recorded in these statistics as they are only up to midnight last night, there was another fatality today at 8.30 am on the West Tamar Highway. A 21 year old Trevallyn cyclist was struck by a utility near the Tamar Island Reserve and killed instantly. A separate media release will follow this on in due course. Initial indications are that inattention may have played a factor in the crash but a full investigation will be undertaken to determine the exact cause.
