It is pleasing to see that the number of speeding offences detected since the start of Operation Crossroads has now fallen below that of last year. Police are also very pleased to see that there have been very few serious and no fatal crashes so far. At the time of this media release there had been 68 crashes reported around the state with only six of those serious enough to require hospitalisation. Of those six the causes have been, failing to give way/disobey red light, unroadworthy vehicle and unlicensed driver, inattention and inexperience.
In Lindisfarne yesterday, a man was detected speeding and talking on a mobile phone in a 40 zone in the shopping precinct. When police indicated for the driver to pull over, he crashed into a parked car while trying to come to a stop. This highlights the importance of not speeding and using a mobile phone whilst driving and how the combination can contribute to crashes.
