A 36 year old unlicenced driver from Penguin was charged with Driving Under the Influence and exceeding .05 after crashing his vehicle into a tree at Penguin last night. He returned a reading of .150.
An 18 year old Queenstown man was also charged with a number of alcohol related driving offences last night. The P1 driver was intercepted in Queenstown and returned a reading of .138.
Yet again Tasmania Police find themselves dealing with a small minority of the community who demonstrate no regard for other road users. Operation Crossroads has removed 74 of these individuals from the roads since the 23rd of December 2015.
What is reassuring is the considerable decrease in motorists detected travelling over the speed limit.
Please remember the fatal five:
Speed
Alcohol and drugs
Distraction
Seatbelts
Fatigue
These are the five contributing factors to serious and fatal crashes.
