Operation Crossroads drawing to a close
Tasmania Police’s Operation Crossroads has so far resulted in 84 people being charged with drink driving offences, 1257 people committing speeding offences and 50 people testing positive for driving under the influence of drugs.
The operation, which started on December 23 and ends tomorrow night, is aimed at making the roads safer for everyone by reducing road and traffic offences over the Christmas and New Year period.
Acting Assistant Commissioner Tony Cerritelli said:
“Sadly, there have been two fatalities on our roads this festive season and our thoughts are with the families and loved ones of those people.
“Just one fatality on our roads is one too many.
“As we begin 2015 we’re asking drivers to think about the ‘Fatal Five’ major contributors to fatal and serious road crashes before they get behind the wheel.
“Our message is very simple:
• Don’t drive if you think you could be over the alcohol limit or have taken drugs;
• Always wear your seatbelt;
• Rest when you’re tired;
• Pay attention to the road; and
• Stick to the speed limit.”
