Operation Crossroads – Day 3 Report – 26 Dec 2016
Tasmania Police has conducted well over three thousand more random alcohol and drug tests than the same time last year. Our commitment on high visibility policing and road safety enforcement operations will continue at this high pace during the holiday season.
We have removed 40 drink drivers from the roads. “The very fact these individuals chose to ignore the repeated warnings is disappointing and their disregard for the lives and safety of law abiding road users is unacceptable” said Senior Sergeant Ian Mathewson.
Last night, Tasmania Police responded to a report of a motorist driving erratically in the south of the state, near Cambridge. The 56 year old female driver from Victoria returned a blood alcohol level of 0.194%. She was arrested and charged.
Tasmania Police urge motorists to not become complacent as we now approach New Year celebrations.
Tasmania Police ask each and every motorist to drive carefully and be continually aware of the ‘fatal 5’; the five biggest contributors to serious and fatal crashes on our roads, these being:
- Speed
- Failure to wear seatbelts or helmets
- Alcohol and Drugs
- Distraction
- Driving whilst tired.
