Around the state yesterday, officers from Tasmania Police issued a further 119 speeding infringements and 8 infringements for drivers not wearing their seatbelts. We also charged 9 drivers for driving with alcohol or drugs in their system.

Police in the south of the state attended a crash at Dynnyrne in the early hours of yesterday morning after a vehicle lost control and collided with the side fence of a house on Proctors Road and struck a car parked in the driveway. The driver, a 29 year old male has been charged with exceed 0.05 (0.216) and Driving under the Influence and will appear in court at a later date.

The driver is lucky he didn’t kill or injure himself or someone else. That would be a consequence he would have to live with for the rest of his life.

Again fatigue is difficult for police to detect and this is one of the fatal five where we only learn about this bad driving behaviour after the event. In the South yesterday, at about 2.45pm, the driver of a 4wd has fallen asleep briefly as they negotiated a slight right hand corner and the vehicle has struck the amco rail and ripped the front tyre off the 4wd as well as bending the vehicle’s chassis; the vehicle is deemed to be a write off. The occupants sustained no injuries, which included 2 children aged 11 and 12 months. Again, we are fortunate that no one was killed either the driver or someone travelling in the opposite direction.
