Officers adopt colour of candy for a cause…
Pink will be the colour of the day for a group of police officers participating in the upcoming Pink Ribbon Ride in memory of a former colleague.
On Sunday the 20th October the informal group of motorcyclists and their friends will join the annual Pink Ribbon motorcycle ride.
The local ride will raise money for the Cancer Council of Tasmania, with funds to be directed towards Breast Cancer Research.
“We sadly farewelled one of our colleagues, former Sergeant Rebecca Bain, recently after she lost her fight with breast cancer,” said Police Commissioner Darren Hine.
“Some of our officers decided that participating in the Pink Ribbon Ride would not only be a nice tribute to Bec, but also a way to assist those who are battling the disease.
“Sadly, many of us know someone who has been touched by breast cancer, so this Pink Ribbon Ride is also a way of raising awareness within the community,” Mr Hine said.
Riders will originate from various points in the State, with all groups converging in Campbell Town.
As part of the fundraising effort, employees of the Tasmania Police are today being encouraged to wear or carry something pink. The money raised from today will be donated to breast cancer research.
The Tasmania Police Charity Trust is assisting in raising funds, with all donations over $2 tax deductible. For more information on donating through the Charity Trust, please visit https://www.police.tas.gov.au/what-we-do/tasmania-police-charity-trust/
