Offenders charged with Common Assault

Following extensive investigations by Detectives from Hobart CIB, four people have now been charged with assault after an incident involving racial abuse that occurred on Charles Street, Moonah on Monday 16 January 2012. 

“The four are aged 14, 16, 18 and 22 assaulted an African woman, her boyfriend and two passers-by who came to the assistance of the couple. Two of the offenders further racially abused the African woman,” said Detective Acting Inspector Craig Joel.

All four have been charged with assault, with the two older males bailed to appear at a later date. The two younger males will be dealt with under the provisions of youth justice legislation.

“Police would like to thank those members of the public who provided information that helped identify and apprehend the youths,” said Detective Acting Inspector Joel.
