New Town man detected driving 45km/h above the speed limit at Risdon Cove
A 23 year old New Town man has received an infringement notice after police detected him driving at 45km/h above the speed limit at Risdon Cove this morning.
Police were conducting mobile speed checks and detected the man travelling at 115km/h in a 70km/h speed zone on the East Derwent Highway in the vicinity of Risdon Cove.
Acting Sergeant Ann Edge from Southern Road and Public Order Services said ‘This act of driving is both disappointing and dangerous. The driver has placed not only himself but other road users in danger. Speeding is one of the fatal five contributing factors to serious and fatal crashes and I urge all motorists to drive to the signed speed limit and conditions’.
The man received a fine of $966 and incurred 6 demerit points. He will also face a four month disqualification from driving.
