A 73 year old man from the Huon Valley will appear in court tomorrow charged with the murder of a 37 year old woman at Risdon Road, New Town.  The deceased woman is the estranged partner of the alleged offender.

The woman was rushed to the Royal Hobart Hospital by ambulance but later died as a result of her injuries.

Police allege the man confronted the woman yesterday afternoon after stopping her car on Risdon Road and fired several shots.

A 53 year old woman who was a passenger in the car was also injured and is in a serious but stable condition in hospital.

A passing motorist restrained the man until police arrived.  The man was arrested and taken to Hobart Police Station where he was interviewed by Detectives.

The man will appear in the Hobart Magistrates Court on Friday 15 May 2015.
