Murder charge from Fatal Crash Channel Highway

A 28 year old man from Margate has been arrested and is presently in custody charged with one count of Murder and 2 counts of causing Grievous Bodily Harm.  The charges emanate from a two vehicle crash which occurred on the Channel Highway approximately 2.5 kilometres north of the township of Margate at 8.30pm on Friday 14th day of June 2013.

At that time a red Ford Falcon sedan being driven in a southerly direction by a 28 year old man from Moonah crossed to the incorrect side of the road and collided head-on with a green Toyota sedan which was being driven by a 45 year old man from Doncaster East, Victoria.

The front seat passenger in the Toyota, a 75 year old man from Kingston died at the scene.  It will be alleged the man charged with murder was a rear seat passenger in the Ford and the charges of cause grievous bodily harm relate to injuries suffered by the driver of the Toyota and a female rear seat passenger in that vehicle.

The man will appear in the Hobart Magistrates Court this afternoon (8 November 2013).
