Man injured in mountain bike near Weldborough
At around 11am Saturday 8th April, a 46-year-old man from Hobart was airlifted from the state’s North East following a mountain bike crash. The man was riding with friends on the ‘Big Chook’ trail, just near Weldborough.
The man was stretchered out with the assistance of other mountain bikers, and SES volunteers from the Dorset and Break O’Day units. He was then taken to the Royal Hobart Hospital by the Westpac Rescue Helicopter.
The man was treated for suspected spinal injuries. The crash is believed to have occurred while he was attempting a jump, around 2km from the Weldborough end of the trail.
The crash was not related to the Enduro World Series event occurring in Derby.
