Police have charged two motorists following evade incidents on the West Coast over the weekend.

Following an evade incident in Queenstown early Saturday morning, a 19-year-old man was today charged with evade police and speeding. He will appear before the Queenstown Magistrates Court at a later date.

In an unrelated evade incident in Queenstown Saturday night, a 50-year-old woman has been charged with evading police (aggravated circumstances), exceeding the prescribed alcohol limit, driving outside of her licence conditions and threatening police. She had her vehicle clamped for a minimum of 28 days and will appear before the Queenstown Magistrates Court at a later date.

Senior Constable Brad Coulson from Queenstown Police said, ‘These motorists have put themselves and others at risk and should not be on the road.”

“If you notice a police vehicle with red and blue lights illuminated behind you, please pull over in a safe place. If you fail to pull over and decide to take deliberate evasive action to avoid being intercepted, police will investigate, and you will be charged.  This may result in your vehicle being clamped or confiscated and for repeat offenders your vehicle may be subject to forfeiture order and be destroyed’.
