Motorbike rider detected speeding at more than 70km/h above the speed limit at Hagley
A motorbike rider will be disqualified for four months after he was detected travelling at excessive speed on the Bass Highway near Hagley last night by Tasmania Police patrolling the highway.
Around 3.50pm, police detected and intercepted a black Aprilla sports motorcycle travelling at 183km/h in the 110km/h zone.
The rider was travelling 73 km/h over the maximum speed limit for that section of road of 110km/h.
The 49-year-old man from Victoria has been issued with a traffic infringement which attracts a penalty of $994.75 and 6 demerit points, plus a further mandatory 4-month disqualification period. Anyone exceeding the posted speed limit by more than 45km/h is at risk of the same penalty.
“Speeding is one of the fatal five contributors to fatal and serious crashes on our roads” said Sergeant Terry Reaney.
“I urge all motorists to drive to the speed limit or road conditions and not put themselves and others at risk”.
“Tasmania Police will continue to patrol highways and roads in both marked and unmarked vehicles and can be anywhere at any time to ensure road users play their part by slowing down and helping to keep everyone safe.”
