Motor vehicle theft
Over recent nights police in the Southern District have been dealing with several incidents whereby motor vehicles have been stolen or attempts made to steal them.
Detective Inspector Peter Powell said some of these incidents occurred in Newdegate Street, North Hobart and at Mount Stuart.
"Fortunately police were successful in apprehending some of the offenders involved but would like to take this opportunity to thank members of the public for their assistance and remind them of precautions they could take," Det Insp Powell said.
"Parking vehicles off the street where possible, behind gates or in a garage is preferable. Ensure the vehicle is locked and if an older model vehicle, the use of a steering wheel lock is a strong deterrent to thieves."
Police report that very few vehicles with a steering lock are stolen.
Finally if you see anything suspicious, please notify police immediately as any delay may hamper the chances of apprehending the offenders.
