Motor Vehicle Crash on Main Street, Sheffield

On Saturday 9th November 2019 at 16:08hrs emergency services responded to a motor vehicle accident on Main Street, Sheffield. Initial reports indicated that a single vehicle had rolled over and there were multiple people trapped within the vehicle.

On emergency services attendance it was ascertained a green 4×4, had been travelling west on Main Street, Sheffield whilst towing a trailer. Whist travelling along Main Street, Sheffield the vehicle has suddenly veered to the left hand side of the road, mounted the pavement and collided with a power pole, partially dropping live electrical powerlines to the street level.

As a result of the electrical hazard, power was cut to the Sheffield area to ensure the safety of emergency services personnel working at the scene.

As a result of the crash initially two adults were entrapped within the vehicle and four children were able to self-extricate themselves from the vehicle, all persons within the vehicle were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Initial investigations indicate the crash may have occurred as a result of a fatigued driver. As a result of the crash Main Street, Sheffield was closed for approximately an hour and power was cut to the Sheffield area for approximately 45 minutes.

Police would like to remind the public to take regular breaks when driving and pull over if feeling tired or fatigued.

Police are continuing their investigation into the cause of the crash.
