Police are investigating a serious crash on the Frankford Highway at Frankford last night.

About 5:40 pm, police and emergency services were notified of a two vehicle crash on Frankford Highway, Frankford.

Initial investigations suggest that a brown Mazda sedan travelling in a westerly direction with a single female occupant lost control in wet conditions while negotiating a slight descent.

Investigations suggest the vehicle crossed into the path of a white Toyota flat tray utility, also with a single female occupant, travelling in the opposite direction. The crash caused both vehicles to leave the road.

As a result of the crash, both drivers were conveyed to the Launceston General Hospital for treatment, with the driver of the Mazda receiving serious injuries.

Frankford Highway was closed for approximately 3 hours.
