Motor Vehicle Crash And Fire – Cecilia Street, St Helens
Police are investigating a motor vehicle crash on Cecilia Street, St Helens. The crash occurred at 9 pm on Saturday the 21st of November 2020, when a black Holden Commodore Utility lost control at the intersection of Quail and Cecilia Streets, and crashed into the front wall of the East Coast Veteran Information and Support Centre.
The engine bay of the vehicle caught fire and the fire then spread to the cladding on the front of the building.
Tasmania Fire Service (TFS) extinguished the fire quickly but significant water and smoke damage was caused to the inside of the building, including the military memorabilia collection.
The value of damage is likely to be in excess of $20,000.
Initial investigations suggest that alcohol was the significant contributing factor in this crash.
