Moonah fatality

A single vehicle crash occurred at about 2:30am this morning on Main Road, Moonah.

The male driver, aged in his 40s from Moonah, was the only occupant of the car. He died at the scene.

While the circumstances of the crash are yet to be fully investigated, early indications are that police in an unmarked vehicle had activated its lights to indicate to the driver to pull over for a routine check. It appears the driver accelerated straight through the junction of Florence Street and crossed Main Road, and crashed into a building.

“We are in the process of investigating all of the circumstances of this crash,” said Acting Deputy Commissioner Scott Tilyard.

As is normal protocol in these circumstances, Internal Investigations is conducting an investigation in relation to the incident with crash scene examination being conducted by Accident Investigation Services. The report will be provided to the Coroner in due course.

Any witnesses to the crash are asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
