Mobile Firearm Amnesty – Huon Community

Tasmania Police are pleased with the response from the Huon community to Saturday’s mobile firearms amnesty operation.

Police setup their Command Bus at the Apple Valley Cool Store near Huonville and a total of 22 firearms and ammunition were handed in for destruction.  12 of those firearms were unregistered.

Sergeant MAY said, “It is always pleasing to help people remove their unwanted and unregistered guns from circulation”.

“Some of the guns were handed down from family members and others hand been discovered in sheds and during renovations.  Some licenced firearm users just wished to clear out old and deteriorated guns”.

“Every firearm handed in this weekend is a firearm that cannot be targeted for theft by criminals, and raises the awareness of our ongoing amnesty.”

The Mobile Amnesty continues  on Sunday, between 9am – 5pm and moves to Kingston opposite Mitre 10 at the entrance to Huntingfield.

Anyone with information about firearm related crime is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
