Tasmania Police is highlighting seven Tasmanian cases as part of National Missing Persons Week which starts today.

Three recent and four long-term missing person cases are being highlighted:

• Nazrawi ‘Naz’ Woldemichael, aged 20, was last seen on 9 October 2016, walking from his North Hobart apartment around 7.50am and then at Eastlands Shopping Centre in Rosny around 11.10am. Despite intensive searching and ongoing enquiries, there have been no confirmed sightings of Naz since and he has not been located. Naz’s family are very worried about him and are waiting for him to come home.

• Dale Godfrey, aged 48, was last seen on 1 March 2013 camping in an area below Mount Wellington in Hobart. At the time, Dale appeared to be in good health and spirits, and had more than sufficient provisions with him for camping. Dale was well experienced in outdoor life and commonly camped around the Mount Wellington and Huonville areas. Dale didn’t drive and usually walked, rode bikes, and used public transport.

• Helen Munnings, aged 20, was last seen on 23 July 2008 in Centrelink on Marine Terrace in Burnie. In 2012 the Coroner determined Helen died in Burnie on/about 23 July 2008. The investigation remains open and police are seeking information regarding the circumstances around Helen’s death and the location of her remains. A $50,000 reward is offered for information leading to the conviction of a person or people involved in Helen’s death.

• Peter Hendrich, aged 57, was last seen on 2 October 2017 at the Conara Camping Ground in the Central Midlands. At the time, Peter was travelling Tasmania alone in his 2012 white Suzuki van, registration N10992. On 3 January 2018 Peter’s van was located unattended on a bush track in Poatina, central Tasmania. Peter was of German descent and had lived in Australia for at least six years prior to going missing.

• Dale Nicholson, aged 59, was last seen on 11 December 2016 driving his usual morning journey from his New Norfolk home to the local shop in his 1993 blue Ford Fairmont, registration DE8536. Dale enjoyed fishing in the Central Highlands and had a good circle of friends who find it out of character for him to be missing.

• Nicola (Nick) Sallese, aged 69, was last seen on 17 November 2008 driving on Main Street in Sheffield in his silver Toyota Camry, registration FH2973. Nick suffered dementia and was known to frequent Sheffield and Devonport but may have been driving to Launceston or Hobart. Nick and his car have not been located.

“This week as we commemorate 30 years since Missing Persons Week originated, we aim to raise awareness of missing people and seek information from the public that would help police to locate missing people,” said Tasmania Police Missing Persons Coordinator, Constable Andrew Lockley.

“Our oldest missing person’s case was solved late last year after DNA analysis of human remains located in 1972 at the base of Mount Wellington were identified as Mrs Joyce Baxter who was reported missing in 1955. As part of the identification process, police established the identity of Mrs Joyce’s daughter, and were able to provide closure.

“The impact on families and friends left behind when someone goes missing is significant. Families always deserve answers to what happened to their loved ones and police will not close a missing person case until the answers are found.”

In Tasmania, around 125 people are reported missing each year, thankfully nearly 99% are located, most within 48 hours. In Tasmania there are currently 163 people listed as missing since 1955.

“Over the coming days, I urge people to take a look around for Missing Persons Week profiles, particularly on social media, look at the faces of our missing people and keep the families of those missing in their thoughts.

“I also remind people that the long-standing misconception that you have to wait 24-hours to report a person as missing isn’t true. Anytime you have concerns for the safety or welfare of someone and their whereabouts are unknown you can report them missing to police.”

Dale lived most of his life in the Huonville area and enjoyed fishing at the local lakes. He was well experienced in outdoor life and commonly camped around the Mount Wellington and Huonville areas.  He didn’t drive and usually walked, rode bikes, and used public transport.

Dale is described as 170cm tall, slim build, grey hair (shaved short) and a fair complexion.

Helen Munnings, aged 20, was last seen around 4pm on 23 July 2008 in the vicinity of Centrelink on Marine Terrace in Burnie. At the time she as wearing plain black trousers and a blue top with hood.

After Helen’s disappearance, a police investigation was commenced in relation to the circumstances of Helen’s disappearance and subsequently a report was prepared for the Corner.

In June 2012 the Coroner completed a formal enquiry and declared that Helen died on/about 23 July 2008 near Burnie.

Helen was described as 154cm tall, slim build with blonde hair, brown eyes and fair complexion. She had a small tattoo of stars and the moon on her right wrist, and a butterfly on her lower back.

The police investigation is ongoing and a $50,000 reward is offered for information leading to the conviction of a person or persons involved in Helen’s death.

It’s now been 10 years since Helen’s disappearance and today she would be 30 years old.  Helen’s family would love to know what has happened to her.

Police and Helen’s family urge anyone who has information that would assist to locate Helen’s remains and bring her killer to justice to come forward.

Peter Henrich, aged 57, was last seen on 2 October 2017 camping alone at the Conara Camping Ground in the Central Midlands.

At the time, Peter was travelling Tasmania in his 2012 white Suzuki van, registration N10992. The vehicle was located unattended on 3 January 2018 on a remote bush track near Poatina.

Peter is described as 172cm tall, heavy build, with brown eyes, brown balding hair and an olive complexion. He is of German descent and had lived in Australia for at least six years prior to going missing.

Dale Nicholson, aged 59, was last seen around 8.30am on 11 December 2016 driving his usual morning journey from his New Norfolk home to the local shop in his 1993 blue Ford Fairmont, registration DE8536.

Dale lived all of his life in the Derwent Valley and enjoys fishing in Tasmania’s Central Highlands. His good circle of friends find it out of character for him to be missing.

Dale is described as 175cm tall, medium build, with brown hair and a ruddy complexion. He has a tattoo of a cross and a tombstone on his left forearm and the word ‘Dale’ on his right forearm.

He was last seen wearing a blue flannel shirt with a dark singlet underneath, blue Levi jeans and a black beanie.

Police and Dale’s friends searched the Upper Derwent Valley however no trace of him has been found.

Nicola (Nick) Sallese, aged 69, was last seen on 17 November 2008 driving on Main Street in Sheffield in his silver Toyota Camry sedan, registration FH2973. His vehicle has damage to the left hand side and small nodding brown dog on the rear parcel shelf.

Nick is a retired Italian born Australian, who suffers dementia. He is described as 150cm tall, heavy build, short white hair and moustache, and green/grey eyes.

Nick was known to frequent Sheffield and Devonport but may have been driving to Launceston or Hobart on the day he went missing. His car has not been located.

It’s been nearly 10 years since Nick went missing. His family continue to hope that he will one day be found and they can know what happened to their beloved father and grandfather. Can you help with information that would assist to locate Nick and/or his vehicle?
