Missing rafters located safe and well
This morning Tasmania Police were conducting a helicopter search of the Mersey River in the Mole Creek area for three rafters reported overdue from their trip.
At about 9am this morning the rafters’ vehicle was located at the Union Bridge across the Mersey River, south of Mole Creek.
At about 10.20am, the helicopter located the rafters – two males from Devonport, aged 19 and 20, and a 21-year-old female from Sheffield, waving to them from the bank of the Mersey River, just south of the Alum Cliffs section of the river. They appeared to be OK. That section of the river was inaccessible to land search parties.
The rafters were winched to the helicopter and then flown to waiting police and family at the Union Bridge. They were assessed by waiting ambulance officers and declared fit and well.
