At about 6am this morning, Thursday 11 October 2012, Devonport Police attended the TT Line terminal in East Devonport in response to a male person’s body being recovered from the Mersey River. 

The 51yo Victorian man and ship passenger was observed jumping from the Spirit of Tasmania II into the Mersey River whilst the ship was engaged in docking procedures.

The ship docking procedure was suspended while the man was rescued and attempts made to resuscitate him.

Police are investigating the matter and a report is being prepared for the Coroner. At this stage there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances.
