At about 2:30pm today, Ambulance Tasmania activated the Westpac Police Rescue Helicopter in relation to a diving accident at Surges Bay in the south of the state.

A 20-year-old Surges Bay man had been diving on a fish farm in the area when he was suspected of falling victim to decompression sickness.

The helicopter landed at the sports ground at Surges Bay and flew the man to the Royal Hobart Hospital. The man was in a stable condition at the time.
