Medivac of injured bush walker – Waterfall Valley Hut
Approximately 7:44 pm on 29 September, Police were notified by a member of the public of a bushwalker suffering chest pain at the Waterfall Valley Hut, on the Overland Track.
The Westpac Rescue Helicopter was activated and attempted to reach the hut however due to inclement weather the helicopter was unable to reach the scene.
Two Land SAR parties were dispatched containing specialist Police Search and Rescue along with two wilderness paramedics from Ambulance Tasmania.
At approximately 2:30 am on arrival at the hut by the ground teams a 50 year old New Norfolk man was found to be having cardiac complications. The man was stabilised to await extraction the following morning.
Approximately 7:30 am, the man was evacuated from Waterfall Valley by helicopter and taken to the Royal Hobart Hospital for treatment.
