Mayfield man charged with firearms offences
Police have today charged a man from Mayfield with several offences including firearms possession.
Police enquiries following a disturbance reported in Mayfield on Sunday night, have resulted in a 30-year-old man being charged with:
- Possess firearm in contravention of firearms prohibition order.
- Possess a firearm when not the holder of a firearm licence of the appropriate category.
- Possess shortened firearm.
- Possess ammunition when not the holder of the appropriate firearm licence.
- Resist a Police Officer.
- Drug Offences.
As part of ongoing police enquiries, police have seized a sawn-off shotgun and a quantity of drugs, which police will allege were in the man’s possession.
The man has been detained to appear before the Launceston Magistrates Court later today.
“I’d like to reassure the community that police investigations so far indicate the incident on Sunday night was isolated, targeted, and between people known to each other,” said Acting Inspector Mathew Adams.
“The support that we continually receive from the community in relation to investigating these crimes is vital.”
