Marine Search and Rescue Exercise – Storm Bay and Jetty Road, South Arm
Emergency Services will be conducting a marine search and rescue exercise this Sunday (1 October 2023) in the area of Storm Bay and the Iron Pot, involving the movement of vessels and people at the South Arm Jetty.
“Emergency services will be conducting a search and rescue exercise this weekend, bringing together several agencies including Tasmania Police, Ambulance Tasmania and Surf Life Saving Tasmania emergency response teams in a simulated maritime distress situation,” said Sergeant Bernard Peters from Police Marine and Rescue Services.
“The opportunity to work together on an exercise provides a valuable learning experience and testing regime for members.
“Several rescue vessels and aircraft will be used as part of the exercise, and training aids will be deployed that may be observed by the public, including smoke flares and floating items.
“Members of the public are advised that this is a training exercise only. If you’re in the area as the exercise is being conducted, please be mindful of search and rescue activities and navigate with caution.”
