Man rescued from the Forth River

At 5:20pm on Tuesday 19 October 2010, emergency services were called to a single vehicle crash on the Forth Bridge, Bass Highway approximately 200m west of the Forth Road turn off.

The crash occurred when a 20 year old male driving his gold Pulsar sedan veered off the bridge smashing through the steel barricade and entering the river below.

With the vehicle fully submerged, an off-duty police officer together with a member of the public entered the river and dragged the driver to a nearby cement pylon and commenced CPR.

The male regained consciousness and was conveyed to shore by Ulverstone Surf Rescue. He was later transported by ambulance to the North West Regional Hospital where he remains in a stable condition.

Police would like to thank the public for their assistance and in particular the representatives of Ulverstone Surf Rescue.

Ulverstone Police would like to speak with the male who assisted in the recovery of the driver and any witnesses who may have seen the vehicle prior to the crash.
