Man in custody in relation to series of southern business burglaries

A 33-year-old Bridgewater man is in police custody assisting with enquiries in relation to a series of business burglaries across Southern Tasmania in the last week.

Detectives investigating a burglary at Harvey Norman in Kingston early this morning, attended a Bridgewater house where they located the suspect, a white Mercedes Benz car stolen from Kingston, and electrical goods stolen from Harvey Norman.

“As part of the ongoing police investigation, the man is also being questioned in relation to burglaries at the IGA Supermarket and Coles Express Service Station in New Norfolk on 5 July,” said Detective Inspector Craig Joel.

Anyone with information that could assist the police investigation is asked to contact Tasmania Police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

It is anticipated the man will be charged later today with burglary and motor vehicle stealing offences and will appear in after-hours court tonight.
